11th May - Jordan think a European race will have to make way for Moscow

On Friday at the A1-Ring in Austria Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed that Moscow will host a race once a circuit has been built but Eddie Jordan believes one of the existing European races will be dropped to make way for the Russian capital as grand prix racing's newest venue.

The first race could be just a couple of years away depending on how quickly the £66million project on the city's Nagatino Island is completed.
"We're very happy with the venue," Ecclestone said in Moscow. "I'm quite sure that a really super Formula One circuit can be constructed.
"It is the FIA Formula One world championship and it's about time we had a round of that championship in Russia and in particular Moscow."

But the addition of Moscow will not lead to an increase in the current schedule of 17 races meaning one of the current venues will be replaced. Jordan suggested that either one of the newer venues like Hungary or Austria would make way.
More likely is that Germany or Italy, which both have two races, would lose one. Imola in Italy, which stages the San Marino Grand Prix, is seen to be under threat, especially as its contract ended after last month's race.
Another possibility is for the likes of the A1 Ring and the Nurburging or Hockenheim in Germany to alternate as hosts.

"It could possibly be one of the new ones and there are already two races in Germany and Italy," said Jordan commenting at the A1-Ring. "Whatever the system is I am sure they will propose a rota then one of the countries we have with two races will lose out to Moscow.
"I just hope they get the timing right because we have seen with Silverstone what can happen if they do not get good planning in terms of the best weather conditions."
