5th March - Heinz blames Barrichello for the accident.

Heinz is pushed into the gravel.

Along with most of the worldwide audience who saw the incident, Heinz-Harald has blamed Barrichello for robbing him of a potential podium place in the Australian Grand Prix. The Brazilian seems to be the only person who saw if differently.

The German was knocked from 3rd down to 16th in the running order when the Ferrari driver tried to barge his way past on lap two. Frentzen recovered to finish sixth on the road, but was promoted to fifth after Olivier Panis received a 25-second time penalty for a caution flag infringement.
"He should know better," said the Jordan ace of Barrichello. "I didn’t see him alongside me and was surprised when I felt the bang from behind.
"He was trying hard and was very quick behind me, and I thought at first he was on two stops. But what can I say? I know he didn’t do it on purpose, but he destroyed my race."

Television evidence clearly points to the fact that it was Barrichello’s fault, he had no more than his front wheel along side the EJ11, not half the car as he suggests. Although clearly annoyed, Frentzen refused to vent his anger on Barrichello. "I don’t want to make too many comments, because it will put too much more fuel on the fire," he said.

Frentzen added that the only good thing about his race was that his Honda-powered EJ11 went the full distance without a hiccup. The speed was also good if, as has been suggested, the Ferrari team were on a two stop strategy until the yellow flags came out for a long period which enabled them to change to one stop. Jordan had enough fuel all along for a one stop.

"The good news is that the car finished. We proved that it is reliable, and that is very important. I managed to get one point [subsequently increased to two] after that incident, so that’s the only positive thing I have to say."

Despite the fact that the next Grand Prix is also on the far side of the world (Malaysia), the team are still going to maximise the time available to them. Monday will see the test team at Silverstone with an EJ10 chassis and some traction control components.
The EJ11, probably with Ricardo Zonta at the wheel, will take to the English circuit on Thursday and Friday.
